George Hitchcock is an Ashland, OH native and Ashland High School alum. He started working for Bill Harris Dealerships part time as an auto detailer in the summer of 2004 and continued
doing this seasonally until 2008. In 2008, he joined the sales floor as a salesman in February and went full time in June 2008. He was with the company in sales from then until spring of 2010 when he went and worked with his uncle at a Ford dealership. Although he learned an immense amount about selling and taking care of customers with his uncle for two years, he returned back to what he calls home in August of 2012. From that point on, he has been with Bill Harris Dealerships and continued selling cars for the next 3 years. In 2015, he started covering sales managers on their days off and vacations at both the GM and Chrysler store locations. He continued managing and selling for the next two years and started managing new/used vehicle sales at the Chrysler store in 2017. From that point forward, he has been the general sales manager at our Chrysler store.
He was essentially born into this business as his father (Tony Hitchcock) started working for Mr. Harris in the early 80’s and continued his career here for nearly all of George’s childhood and adult life. Growing up, you could usually find George along with Aaron Harris out cruising the town on our bicycles, and it was easy for their mothers to know if they weren’t home, they were on their bikes en route to go see their fathers at the dealership to make sure they didn’t need their assistance or any random questions asked by them! George’s parents met in Ashland and raised him along with 3 sisters here. Most of them have moved away; however, George’s love for this business has kept him here serving our local community in automotive sales.
George recently married the love of his life in 2020, and they love animals (two cats – Maple and Murphy, and a great dane named Willow). George has always been one to tinker with things to find out how they operate and why they are built the way they are. This started at a young age, and although his personality would have been better suited for repairing vehicles or designing them, he always had a strong bond with his father and wanted to do what he did. George loves anything mechanical, and if he’s not working, he’s enjoying motorcycles, ATVs, cars, trucks, boats, guns, camping, hiking or anything that would get him outside.
Currently, his most favorite outside activities are anything challenging with a bit of danger. He loves to push high performance vehicles to their limits, whether it be automobiles, boats, or motorcycles.
Seeing what engineers put together and using them for the purpose they were built makes George appreciate the amazing things humans have created for entertainment in our world. George also loves a nice, relaxing weekend parking his RV somewhere outside of town and enjoying the warm summer months being outside.
George finds a lot of enjoyment in his career and coming to work is something he looks forward to every single day. He grew up in a small town with not a ton of high paying jobs; however, he’s always appreciated high-end trucks and cars. This passion is what George loves to bring to our dealership. He takes pride in ordering trucks/cars with amazing color combos and equipment lists.
When he became general sales manager, he wanted to show people that small dealerships can offer the best inventory along with a much more personal, honest buying experience.
Quote George lives by: “Always be the hardest worker in the room.”
Fun fact about George: one day, he wants to have his own plane and license to fly.
